4 ACTIONABLE WAYS IN OVERCOMING YOUR ANGER (GOD'S WAY)

ANGER DOESN'T GET YOU ANYWHERE!

OVERVIEW

Have you ever feel mad or angry at the very moment you wake up in the morning? That compelling feeling that there's a powerful force irresistible in a way, and all you can do is to be mad! That happened to me a lot!

Why am I being frustrated with nothing? What's good in the morning? What is it? Answer me! Well, sorry for that. I just can't stop thinking about it. I am so mad for being mad and that's crazy!

What does the Bible say about anger?

EPHESIANS 4:26

"And 'don't sin by letting anger control you'. Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry."

JAMES 1:20

"Human anger does not produce the righteousness of God desires."

PSALMS 37:8

"Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper - it only leads to harm."

Now we gain a little more wisdom from these passages. It only means that anger does not come from the Lord. Where does it really come from? You guess!

When we are angry, we only hurt our own selves. Why? You feel uneasy and there's no peace at all. Seems like there's a huge coal-burning inside your chest waiting to explode. You can't breathe and there's a clog in your heart, restraining your joy.

Okay, that's a little bit exaggerated. But you can imagine a really angry person, and describe it yourself. It's one of the unpleasant things that could happen, I could say. Or worst, it can cause a fight and kill our important relationships.

However, you don't want that to happen, right? That's why you're reading this. And yes, I'm also like you. I've been searching for answers cause I want to become a better version of myself. So here's what I found out.

4 ACTIONABLE WAYS IN OVERCOMING YOUR ANGER
(GOD'S WAY)

1. YOU MUST HUMBLE YOURSELF

When you humble yourself, you are wise. When you stop arguing, it only means that you are matured enough to understand things.

As for my own experience, humility saved me from many fights and arguments. Humility restored so many relationships. And mind you, it's not that easy, especially when you know you did nothing wrong, your ego and pride are like a roaring lion. But the essence of humility is humbling yourself even if you are sometimes right.

Abhijit Naskar says:

"Humility comes through awareness of the depths of yourself."

So if you know who you are, you will not just burst out into anger or frustrations. If you know that you are a 'Child of God', you must walk in the path of righteousness. I am so glad that I learned to humble myself whenever I've made a mistake or get easily angered, thanks to the Word of God, thanks to the Conviction of the Holy Spirit. The Lord is faithful to remind me of 'Who I Am' and I believe 'I am who He says I am".

PROVERBS 11:2

"Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."

ROMANS 12:21

"Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good."

2. CONTROL YOUR TEMPER, DON'T LET ANGER CONTROL YOU

I don't believe you if you said, you cannot control yourself, or your emotions! Of course, you can! The answer is discipline and practice. As you do things repeatedly, it will become your habit, it will become your attitude.

PROVERBS 22:6

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

But you're not a child anymore, I believe you are now capable of making decisions and maybe you're a little more responsible now. Who wants to be living in anger and conflicts, no one right? It is said in:

PROVERBS 15:1

"A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger."

PROVERBS 14:17

"Short-tempered people do foolish things, and schemers are hated."

GALATIANS 5:22

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

These passages, sum it up. Those who are quick to anger were most likely easily get into trouble. Those who stay patient and knows how to control their temper, I assume, are living a quiet and peaceful life.

3. GIVE IT TO GOD

In connection with humility in number 1. This time, you have to humble yourself before the Lord, in sincere prayer. Accept that you can't do it alone. It is by God's grace that we are now cleansed from our sinful nature. As you repent from your sin, God will do the rest. He will mold your character, He will finish what He has started on you.

PHILIPPIANS 1:6

"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."

He alone can change the heart of a person, there's no other name but Him. Just like you are praying for others; your loved ones, sisters, mother or father, might as well start to pray for yourself. Nothing will be impossible with God if you believe. Because faith without action is dead. As you pray, help yourself, be decisive!

4. READ AND APPLY GOD'S WORD DAILY

God's Word is our powerful weapon. You must understand that there's a spirit battling against our flesh. Rebuke the spirit of anger that is not coming from the Lord. Fill your minds with the promises and instructions of the Lord and you will surely come out wise. You will eventually know how to react or speak in a particular situation. Because the Word of God is the final authority of our lives!

It is one thing to listen to sermons and another thing to read directly from the Bible. Cause remember, the Lord communicates with us through His Words, and you will personally understand what He is trying to say to you. His revelation to you might be different from the others. After all, it is between you and God, it is about your personal relationship with the Lord.

2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

HEBREWS 4:12

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

FINAL THOUGHTS

REMEMBER, THIS IS A LIFELONG PROCESS.

GOD IS NOT FINISH WITH YOU YET.

DON'T BE TOO HARSH ON YOURSELF.

EVENTUALLY, YOU WILL OVERCOME YOUR ANGER.

JUST LIKE JESUS HAS OVERCOME THE WORLD.

JUST DON'T STOP PRAYING, NEVER STOP BELIEVING.
